Arrival in Puerto Maldonado: Welcome and reception at the airport 'Father Aldamiz' or the Bus Station.
2:30pm: Our tour starts with lunch and a short tour of the city, with destination the Port Captain. 3:30pm: Set off down the Madre de Dios River in an outboard boat to Amazon Planet. At 1 hour boat ride thru the heart of the jungle surrounded by flora and fauna and breathtaking scenery.
4:30pm: Arrive at Amazon Planet and settle into your bungalow.
5:30pm: Short walk around the lodge and its facilities.
7:00pm: Dinner and video of the Taricaya Turtle Repopulation Project.
After dinner a guided nocturnal walk exploring the jungle after dark. (1 hour).
8:00am: After breakfast we will begin our adventure walking thru our trails surrounded by trees of 45 meters high and over 300 years old while we identify the flora and fauna by sight and sound. We will arrive at our first 2 platforms located 15 and 25 meters high above a small collpa, in the branches of an old fig tree accessed by a suspension bridge while we explore the amazing structure of this tree and the wildlife that live around it. We will continue into the Taricaya reserve towards the Canopy platform, the highest tree platform in the Amazon rainforest. Located 45 meters up in the crown of an ancient Kapoc tree and connected by a 90 meter long suspension bridge. Catch a glimpse of flying Macaws, parrots Toucans or the infamous Harpy eagle; the views from this platform are truly unforgettable! From here we will continue on to the animal rescue center where you will encounter over 40 different wild animals including jaguars, toucans, macaws, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, jaguarundi, bush dogs, tapirs and more. These animals are in the process of rehabilitation before being released back into the wild. Stop off at the Butterfly Project before returning to the lodge for lunch
1:00pm: Return to the lodge for lunch and a rest.
3:00pm: Take a 25 minute walk along the trails to the Agroforestry farm in the Taricaya Ecological Reserve and observe the reforestation projects of mahogany, cedar, cocoa, coffee, tropical flowers among others and taste the tropical fruits that are in season. Also, visit the Taricaya turtle resettlement project and its artificial beaches.
5:00pm: Return to Lodge and rest
We end our day with caiman in the night!
Take the motor boat along the river to closely observe caiman, the largest reptile in the Amazon (1 hour).
9:00pm: Travel up river by motor boat for 10 minutes to visit a native family of the Ese
Eja etnia. Learn about their ancestral customs while you make your own bow and arrow with the chief of the family.
Have a vivential experience as the chief and his family introduce you into their culture showing you how their etnia lived in direct relationship with nature.
Finally, you can have one on one talk with them as they display their handcrafts for you for sale. Return to the lodge.
12:00pm: Return to the lodge.
1:30pm: Lunch and rest.
3:30pm: After lunch navigate the Madre de Dios
River in inflatable rafts, with the opportunity to see turtles, herons, and other birds with a beautiful backdrop of the sunset over the river.
7:00pm: Farewell dinner
7:00am: Return to Airport
Things you should bring to the jungle: light and comfortable clothing, with long and short sleeves and light pants, warm jacket (if cold spell hits), raincoat, trekking shoes or boots, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, flashlight, camera, binoculars.
We have at the Lodge rubber boots in case of rain, provided to you at no additional cost (for sizes greater than 42 it is recommend that bring your own).
